The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) report regarding the instances of suspected food poisoning brought against Marwako Fast Food Limited's East Legon branch in Accra has been welcomed by the company's management.
The restaurant, on the other hand, has indicated that it would seek an independent investigation into the occurrence.
This, they claim, is because some sections of the study have the potential to harm their reputation.
The FDA issued a report on a food poisoning event that happened at several of the eatery's locations in May 2022 on Monday, June 13, 2022. According to the FDA, early examinations reveal that food samples and several juice drinks from the eatery's numerous locations were tainted.
The Authority said that the eatery's unauthorised and unilateral decision to trash some food items during the inquiry impeded efforts to determine the primary source of contamination.
However, Marwako's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Amin Lamptey, has maintained that claims of tampering with an ongoing probe are unfounded. "According to one of the lines, FDA stated that our management has impeded the process of determining the underlying cause of the contamination." This is the point where we have a beef with the FDA.
"Depending on the scenario, you may have to throw out certain refrigerated materials after a day," they said, adding that the procedure was impeded. After everything is said and done, Marwako will have to accept what they have done, despite the fact that there are issues that might seriously harm our brand and marketability. But, in light of their judgment, we will seek an independent review into what occurred," Mr Lamptey remarked.
The FDA also stated that, based on its findings, the establishment failed to follow proper sanitary procedures, resulting in widespread food poisoning as reported by consumers.
As a result, it has committed to regularly monitoring actions at its numerous branches to guarantee compliance with its directions and any regulatory requirements.
