US PLEDGES TO STRENGTHEN COMMERCIAL CONNECTIONS WITH GHANA TO GROW BUSINESSES

Don Graves, the US Department of Commerce's Deputy Secretary of Commerce, has committed the US government's assistance for Ghana's efforts to create enterprises, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), a move he says would aid the country's economic transformation.

 

The Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Commerce, Don Graves, said the US will continue to build economic links with Ghana in order to assist both nations grow at the 2022 US-Ghana Business Forum organized by the American Chamber of Commerce Ghana.

 

 

 

Many small and medium-sized Ghanaian firms, he believes, will be transformed into giants as a result of this.

 

 

 

"We must continue to strive toward achieving our purpose and improving our commercial activity." It should be simple for me to do so.  move to Ghanaian officials to talk about concerns, and vice versa," he added.

 

 

 

The United States has pledged to enhance trade ties with Ghana in order to help the country's economy thrive.

 

"We will do all necessary to encourage US corporations to explore the Ghanaian market for the establishment of subsidiaries or, better yet, partnerships with some Ghanaian investors to help generate jobs for the country's many jobless young while also growing the GDP." "The United States is a significant partner of Ghana and will continue to be an ally," he stated.

 

 

 

 

 

Temitope Iluyemi, a Senior Director at P and G Africa, said the African Continental Free Trade Area's (AfCFTA) efficacy may be questioned if suitable preparations are not put in place to integrate the operations of member countries.

According to her, the secretariat should expand beyond offering trade prospects to fully-fledged corporations and assist small businesses in scaling up by giving frameworks.

MSMEs should develop relationships with existing platforms on the AfCFTA to learn and network, she added.

 

 

 

She feels that this engagement and communication approach should be multi-stakeholder in nature and utilise suitable working methods.

 

 

 

 

 

"It's critical to regard the AfCFTA as more than simply a benefit for large corporations, but as a tool to assist our MSMEs build up their operations and spread wealth across Africa," she added.

 

 

 

"So, when we focus on it, we need to consider the whole picture and people's livelihoods across the board."
