After Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Esther Saan, the sixth accused person, became unwell and began vomiting up in court during proceedings, the hearing in the case where about 10 people are being tried for their alleged involvement in a coup attempt was cut short.
Chief Inspector Michael Nkrumah, the 14th and last prosecution witness, was being cross-examined by attorneys for Yohanne Zikpi, the fourth accused person (A4), under the direction of Attorney Anthony Lartey.
The defence attorneys are questioning Chief Inspector Nkrumah, the case's investigator.
Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Chief Executive Officer of Citadel Hospital, Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, and eight other people have all been charged.
ACP Dr. Agordzo and Col. Kojo Gameli have both denied the accusation of abetment while Dr. Mac-Palm and seven other people, including WOII Esther Saan, have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and high treason.
They are currently on trial after being granted bail.
Further cross-examination in court on Monday had to be stopped because the sixth accused started vomiting up and needed to be brought to the court clinic.
WOII Esther Saan was vomiting up because she took medicine on an empty stomach, the court warrant officer who escorted her to the clinic reported back to the court.
As a result, the three-judge High Court panel chaired by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe postponed the hearing to June 22.
According to the case management completion plan established with the court, Mr. Lartey is anticipated to wrap up his cross-examination in the following sitting in 40 minutes, according to EIB Network's Court Correspondent Murtala Inusah.
When Mr. Lartey concludes his interrogation of the witness, the prosecution must conclude its case.
Cross-examination
Counsel told Chief Inspector Nkrumah during cross-examination that he asked A4 (Yohanne Zikpi) to change exhibit AQ1 (investigations Cautioned statement dated 21/10/19), and only A4 (Zikpi) and A1 (Dr. Mac-Palm), in order to incriminate them.
However, the investigator asserted that was untrue.
The Investigator said in court that he got the exhibits AQ (Cautioned Statements) and AQ1 right after the fourth accused (A4).
When it was pointed out to him that he wasn't physically there throughout the time that A4 was being questioned, the Investigator insisted that he had been present.
According to the defence attorney, A4 was questioned in secret on the grounds of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
It took happened in our regular questioning room, the witness refuted that claim, stating.
