The Gaming Commission's governing body and management have warned the public to avoid doing business directly with organisations that do not have a licence to operate in the gaming industry.

In a first-of-its-kind announcement dated June 27, 2022 and signed by the board chairman, Gary Nimako Marfo, the Gaming Commission reported that 35 sports betting licences had been granted by the commission for the licencing year 2022. They have also granted 26 casino licences and 8 route licences to meritorious businesses.

The Governing Board of the Gaming Commission of Ghana has granted licences to the underlisted Companies to operate in Ghana till December 31, 2022, in accordance with Section 13 of the Gaming Act 2006, Act 721.

The sentence was read.

The Public is officially warned not to play at any unauthorised companies, according to this notice. The Gaming Commission's statement said, "The Public is further reassured that there will be ongoing surveillance by the Governing Board to clamp down on all unauthorised businesses functioning in the industry.

The Commission on Gaming

The Gaming Commission is a legal entity that was created by the Gaming Act of 2006 (Act 721) with the primary objective of governing, managing, overseeing, and monitoring the operation of games of chance in this nation.

The Commission is also in charge of giving permits to businesses and individuals who want to organise campaigns that include elements of games of chance as well as licences to all gaming operators.

Stakeholder participation

The Ghana Gambling Commission increased its efforts in September 2021 to enforce "know your customer" (KYC) verification in the country's gaming sector.

Simply put, KYC verification compels casino operators to confirm the identity of every customer that visits their locations or websites. At the time, the Commission gave an explanation for why the effort was required, citing the recent expansion of gaming-related activities in Ghana.

Additionally, the Gaming Commission and the Financial Intelligence Centre outlined a number of actions during a recent stakeholder engagement that will guarantee that operators in the quickly expanding gaming business comply with the necessary KYC verification.
