ERIK TEN HAG wants Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United to be settled quickly before it becomes a full blown saga.

But United are determined not to let Prem's rivals go, despite interest from Chelsea.

Ronaldo, 37, missed Tuesday's second day of training for "family reasons".

United have accepted the explanation and promised to give him as much time as he needs.

Ronaldo's representatives have made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer to join a Champions League club. And United remain in the dark as to when he will return or if he will be on the plane for his pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday afternoon.

The Red Devils continue to insist their legendary star is not for sale and expect him to end the last 12 months of his contract.

But Ten Hag is concerned that the noise surrounding Ronaldo will hamper his preparations for the new season as all the other players are now back.

United made their first big move of the transfer window yesterday when they snapped up full-back Tyrell Malacia for £12.9m.He is likely to be quickly followed by midfielder Christian Eriksen, while Frenkie de Jong, Lisandro Martinez and Antony are also targets.

But doubts about Ronaldo's future threaten to overshadow the new signings.

Ten Hag had plans on how to best use the experienced striker next season and was keen to work with him.

But he knows he would leave them in the scoring department if Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals last season, manages to find his way out.

And the possibilities of replacing him are already limited: former targets Erling Haaland and Darwin Núñez travel to the Prem with rival clubs. It would mean rethinking how to spend this summer's budget, or giving Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial another shot down the middle.

Bayern Munich could make a move if Robert Lewandowski gets his wish to leave, while Napoli and Barcelona are also interested.

Bayern legend Lothas Matthäus said: "Ronaldo to FC Bayern would be sexy.

"If Bayern are of the opinion that Ronaldo is still physically able to really help out for a year or two and to invest the transfer fee generated by Lewandowski in a more or less similar way, I would think about it.

“He's one of the best strikers of all time and would certainly score 30 goals.
