In order to increase the supply and penetration of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the sub-region, West African nations will be home to jetties developed and built by WAGL Energy Limited, a joint venture company run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Sahara Group.

The first of the bunch is already the subject of advanced conversations, according to Emmanuel Ubani, managing director of WAGL Energy Limited. He said that WAGL has started building infrastructure to take advantage of the potential in the approaching energy transition period and that the move was one of the company's numerous initiatives to take advantage of those prospects.

Ubani acknowledged that there was a rising need for LPG in Africa, but he cautioned that more strategic policies and investments were needed to deepen and broaden the use of the fuel in rural areas of the continent.

According to him, an enabling environment for the industry has to be established before LPG gains a major or dominating market share in Sub-Saharan African nations. Infrastructure, including liquefaction and regasification facilities, gas distribution, pipelines, gas distribution vehicles, cylinder distribution, and/or segmented local distribution to specific homes and businesses, were among the items he named as making up the enabling environment.

All components of the value chain must be functioning and in place, he added, which means there must be a distribution mechanism that makes it possible for people to gain access.

most crucial, acceptable and accommodating usage for the alternative energy source. A ready and active market network. The industry must be made economically viable by combining public and private investments at a level that allows for economies of scale. It is necessary to pay sufficient attention to the policy and strategic levels, with clear responsibility allocation and suitable sector regulation.

Ubani emphasised the importance of de-risking substantially and encouraging greater private sector investment in countries who want to take the lead in the continent's energy transformation.

Governments must do a fantastic job of creating an atmosphere that is conducive to the sector's growth. They must take use of renewable energy's abundance and competitiveness, as well as its support for systemic innovation.
