In order to prevent the burgeoning of indifference, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) recently-elected General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, believes it is imperative to control the expectations of party supporters.
In the run-up to the National Delegates' Conference, he claims that throughout his campaigning, he found that the majority of party supporters felt distant from the party leadership and further believed that there was a distance between the party and the government.
He claimed that this was mostly caused by the fact that once the party took power, the aspirations of these party supporters were not satisfied.
In an interview with JoyNews' PM Express, Justin Frimpong said that while it is difficult to fulfil the wishes of every party supporter throughout a full presidential term, it was still feasible to achieve, Keeping these expectations in check and expressing optimism to them was crucial.
He claims that doing this will reassure these supporters of the party's dedication to providing for them in the greatest manner possible.
Going around and listening to the concerns of many party members revealed that they believed there to be a chasm between the party's hierarchy and the grassroots; some also believed there to be a chasm between the party and the government; and some also believed there to be a lack of accessibility between them and the party hierarchy.
Consequently, they were their main worries. And undoubtedly, everybody who backs a political party has hopes and expectations that, should the party win, they would receive A, B, C, or D.
"And the fact of the issue is that no government can meet everyone's requirements in four or even eight years. What do you then? You control those expectations and convey to them that there is still hope for you even if you haven't received anything.
