Health professionals are concerned about the high rates of diabetes and hypertension among Koforidua Zongo inhabitants. The problem has been related to a change in the healthy eating habits and consistent walking that were typical of Muslims in Zongo areas.

This was noticed during a free health screening operation conducted by Magajiya Hajia Rabiyatu Ahmed Zakaria, the Eastern Regional Queen Mother of Zongo Communities.

Residents received high-quality treatment during the health screening from certain medical doctors and other clinicians from Ridge Hospitals in Koforidua and Accra.

Among other things, participants underwent screenings for excessive blood pressure, malaria, typhoid, COVID-19, and hyperglycemia.

Diabetes and hypertension were found to be widespread conditions. The medical staff prescribed drugs for the patients and suggested the hospital for additional care for those with severe to critical ailments.

Leading the medical staff at Ridge Hospital in Accra, Dr. Fati Ahmed was concerned that several diabetic and hypertensive patients had flagrantly neglected Ghana take their meds.

Many people in our community suffer diabetes and high blood pressure. Numerous persons with diabetes and high blood pressure are uncomplaining. They are not taking their meds, and some patients who have previously visited the hospital were advised to take medication for a month instead of going for follow-ups and reviews, but they chose not to do so.

We've also given first aid to people with very high blood pressure and sent a few of them to the hospital, as well as to those who needed to go to the hospital right away because their blood pressure and sugar levels were so high, the woman added.

The Health Center in Koforidua Zongo will monitor residents with high blood pressure and diabetes to make sure they follow their meds, according to Moro Mamunatu, a public health nurse.

She worries that many Zongo community members are hesitant to visit the hospital for exams.

Administrator of the event The Eastern Regional Queen Mother of Zongo Communities (Magajiya), Hajia Rabiyatu Ahmed Zakaria, stated that she was inspired to conduct the health screening to promote the health of the people in Zongo Communities, especially to help the people in this terrible economic condition.

Other Zongo settlements in the Eastern area, including Kibi and Asamankese, will have similar events, including free enrollment onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The medical intervention was praised by several of the recipients.
