James Tavernier, the Rangers captain, is set to sign a new contract with the Ibrox club until the summer of 2026. The 30-year-old’s present deal runs until 2024 but Rangers have moved to tie him down to new terms which would take him to 11 years of service. The right back joined Rangers in 2015 when they were still in the Championship. His early years in Govan were difficult but he has since become a fans’ favourite having been appointed captain in 2018. James Tavernier set to sign bumper new Rangers contract as Gers skipper closes in on Ibrox TESTIMONIAL

RANGERS skipper James Tavernier is set to sign a bumper new contract at Ibrox. SunSport understands the 30-year-old is ready to commit the bulk of his best years to the Ibrox side. 1 James Tavernier during the Scottish Cup FinalCredit: SNS Tavernier has two years remaining on his current deal and will be eligible for a testimonial with the Ibrox side in 2025. Securing his long-term future is the next part of the jigsaw after Connor Goldson surprised many by agreeing a bumper four-year deal to stay with the Ibrox men. Rangers are cash rich after the sales of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey to Southampton and Ajax respectively. While the announcement may not come in the next few days, tying down Tavernier is the logical next step and the Englishman is believed to be happy to pledge his future to the club. The right back is already closing in on 350 appearances for the Ibrox men after joining from Wigan back in 2015. Relationships between the Ibrox hierarchy and Tavernier are very close and that is set to continue as he attempts to help the Ibrox men reclaim their Premiership title. The news came as Calvin Bassey admitted he didn't have to think twice about leaving Ibrox after his stunning record-breaking move to Dutch giants Ajax. The 22-year-old gushed over his new side's Champions League prospects as he completed a meteoric rise after a stunning second half of the season at Ibrox. Speaking out for the first time since completing the move, Bassey told Ajax's YouTube channel: "It made sense for me when I got the call, you didn't have to ask me twice - there was no doubt at all about making the move. "I can't really put it into words really, it does just feel amazing to be here. "It's only now that it starts to feel real." Ridvan Yilmaz: Rangers confirm pursuit of Besiktas defender and new James Tavernier deal

Yilmaz was part of Turkey's Euro 2020 squad last summer Rangers have signed Turkey left-back Ridvan Yilmaz on a five-year deal from Besiktas for an initial fee of £3.4m that could rise to £5.3m with add-ons. The 21-year-old played 72 times for Besiktas after coming through the youth ranks and has six caps for his country. "I have heard so much about the Rangers supporters and cannot wait to play in front of them," said Yilmaz. "I'm delighted to be joining a club the size of Rangers and am really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates." Yilmaz, who won the 2020-21 Super Lig with Besiktas, will help fill the void created by the departure of the versatile Calvin Bassey, who was sold to Ajax for £19.6m last week. Centre-back Ben Davies has also arrived from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee while Scotland central defender John Souttar joined from Hearts. Attacking full-back Yilmaz, who was contracted to Besiktas until next June, was part of the side that finished sixth in the Turkish league last season.
