AMA ATTA sits under her stopgap shed at the Dominase Onion Market close to a truck heap of onions. With a privately made straw cap situated over her head to protect her from the scotching sun, she goes through a sack of onions, carefully choosing them into different containers arranged by sizes.

"This huge crate goes for GH¢50 yet I will lessen it to GH¢45 for you," she says as she requests the interest of clients who visit her shed.

On a decent market day, Ama Atta shows she can sell five sacks of onions. "We have not been hanging around for a really long time yet we can have great deals on market days," she concedes with a chuckle. "In some cases, I am ready to make about GH¢500 in benefit."

She says the market has turned into her wellspring of occupation since her choice to wander into the onion exchange, a year prior.

"I was a trivial broker locally until the onion merchants came here so I chose to go along with them to sell onions and I have not thought twice about it," she adds.

The Dominase Onion Market was non-existent until a year prior when onion merchants at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra were moved as a feature of a decongestion practice by the neighborhood specialists.

The formation of the market, which now has around 1000 dealers, in the Gomoa Dominasearea of the Gomoa East District of the Central Region,is an aftermath from that activity.

Ama Atta says albeit the market has a potential for growth, the absence of legitimate disinfection and water offices is a significant issue.

"Well, it is one of our enormous issues here. We don't have a legitimate spot to go when nature calls," she mourns. Water is likewise an issue for us.
