The list of nations with the cheapest mobile data in the world now includes Ghana. Based on a study, The Worldwide Mobile Data Pricing 2022 research came to this result.
It was put up by Cable.co.uk after data from 5,292 mobile data plans in 233 countries was analysed. The results were based on the price per gigabit (GB) of data in the chosen nations.
After 12 data plans were analysed, Ghana was ranked 40th with an average price of $0.61 (or $5.12) per GB. But in Africa, Ghana comes in second place, after only Libya. Morocco came in fourth, followed by Somalia in third.
Overall, Israel tops the list of nations whose citizens enjoy the lowest mobile data at $0.04 per gigabyte, followed by Italy, San Marino, and Fiji.
Israeli service providers have substantial 4G LTE and 5G network coverage, and the country has a greater smartphone market penetration than the US, according to Cable.co.uk.
Saint Helena, a British Overseas Territory, has the most costly mobile data costs, with a gigabyte costing $41.06. According to the research, 4G or 5G infrastructure-rich nations are more likely to have affordable mobile data plans.
The state of mobile data in Africa
Five of the ten most expensive nations in the world to purchase mobile data are in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the 2022 Worldwide Mobile Pricing study. These nations charge at least $10 for 1GB of mobile data, which is 250 times more expensive than Israel, the nation with the allegedly lowest data rates in the world.
1GB of data in Sao Tome and Principe costs $29 there. Botswana charges $16, whereas Togo charges $13 for a gigabyte.
It costs $13 in Seychelles and $11 in Namibia. These are the other African nations where data packages are the most costly.
