68 pints of blood have been given by the Information Ministry and its press pool to assist replenish supplies at the National Blood Bank. The Ministry has engaged in this gesture twice already.
Its personnel, the staff of the Information Services Department (ISD), and members of the general public were all present at the occasion. 138 patients had their blood pressure, malaria, BMI, and HIV checked as well.
Deputy Minister for Information Fatimatu Abubakar stated in her introductory comments that the initiative was in response to the Blood Bank's urgent requests for assistance in stocking up. She said that the scarcity resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic's accompanying travel restrictions that had an impact on mass blood donation.
"I am impressed that my press pool colleagues, together with members of the Ministry of Information personnel, the Information Services Department, and other volunteers, reacted to the National Blood Bank's request and came out in large numbers to help supply the Blood Bank."
Thus, the Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the employees, volunteers, and members of the media for supporting such a kind deed. She also urged similar acts from other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Madame Joyce Oppong Adu, the National Blood Service's principal blood donor recruitment officer, emphasised the necessity of blood donation for lifesaving.
She also asked people to take part in upcoming blood donation campaigns. Kojo Larbi, the head of communications at Stanbic Bank Ghana, was ecstatic that his organisation came through to support the effort and make it a success.
He said that the exercise was admirable and that Stanbic Bank would be delighted to work with the Ministry on such projects in the future.
The success of the exercise, according to Richard Anane Osei, Head of Corporate Affairs at the EXIM Bank Ghana, demonstrates how much we can do as a group if we put our hands up.
According to him, the EXIM Bank Ghana would continue to offer assistance whenever needed to ensure the success of events like these. The following companies contributed to the cause: Voltic, Frutelli, Tobinco, Kalypo, Ayrton Drugs, Ghana EXIM Bank, FanMilk Limited, Dano Milk, Cocoa Processing Company (Golden Tree), Coca Cola, Special Ice, Niche Confectionary, and Stanbic Bank Ghana.
