Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to closing the growing development gap between the country's zongos and urbanised neighbourhoods.
This will be accomplished by the expedited development of numerous educational facilities in inner cities and zongos. He asserts that previous administrations did not support the overall development of residents of zongo areas.
He pointed out that populist measures like the distribution of food and handouts during Ramadan have not significantly improved the quality of life in certain communities. Dr. Bawumia was giving a speech at the Tunga Islamic school's freshly built six-unit classroom block's commissioning.
Over the years, students at Tunga Islamic Basic School have been jammed into three classrooms, which has had a negative impact on teaching and learning. But with the commissioning of the new structure paid for by the Zongo Development Fund, locals and students of the school claim that those difficulties would no longer exist.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the facility's successful completion demonstrates the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration's dedication to the zongos.
The Zongo Development Fund is the frontline agency and vehicle through which the government seeks to ensure the realisation of the development objectives relating to zongo communities. "Expanding access to quality and relevant education is pivotal to the transformation we are determined to engender in zongo communities," the statement reads.
In fact, no funding has ever been purposefully set aside for the development of zongo villages since Ghana gained independence. Unquestionably, the creation of the Fund for zongo villages is exceptional. He mentioned a number of nationwide development initiatives that were finished or were still in progress. It is the responsibility of the government to increase access at all levels given the sudden increase in Senior High School enrolment brought on by the Free SHS programme.
In this regard, the government has started the construction of one model senior high school in each of the 16 areas through the Zongo Development Fund. To assure the opening of three of the schools this year, we are working hard.
The construction of the facility, according to Ursula Owusu-Ekufful, Minister of Communications and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, shows that the Akufo-Addo-led administration keeps its promises.
To maintain the institution in good condition, administrators were urged to promote a high maintenance culture.
