The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, cut the sod on December 13, 2019, at Kentenkrono in the Oforikrom Municipality to officially start the 100 km Phase 1 Rehabilitation and Auxiliary Infrastructure of Kumasi Inner Ring Road and Adjacent Streets Project.
With this addition, the Akufo-Addo administration has now finished 1,180.2 kilometres of roads since 2017. The region's 503.44 kilometres of new roads built between 2009 and 2016 have more than doubled by this amount.
The 100 km Kumasi Inner Ring Road Rehabilitation and Auxiliary Infrastructure Project - Phase 1 was started with the main goals of improving intra-urban traffic flow, reducing the incidence of flooding, dust pollution, and other detrimental environmental effects associated with the inadequate road network.

Asokwa, Bantama, Nhyiaeso, Manhyia, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Tafo Pankrono, Subin, and Suame are among the beneficiary villages, as are Nhyiaeso, Nhyiaeso, Manhyia, and Kwadaso. The Urban Roads Department claims that with the project's completion, accessibility in Kumasi has improved overall.
Vice President Bawumia stated at the commissioning on August 1, 2022 that the completion of this project, along with the numerous others that have already been completed or are in the process of being completed, is proof of the government's commitment to enhancing the road infrastructure throughout the nation, particularly in the Ashanti region.
"This project's completion is crucial to the government because it would result in the addition of 100 km of restored roads to the network in Kumasi.

Since 2017, 295 kilometres of roads in the Ashanti region have successfully undergone an asphalt overlay according to the Department of Urban Roads (DUR). Subin Nhyiaeso and Bantama, Asokwa, Oforikrom, Old Tafo, Asokore Mampong, Bekwai, Ejisu, Juaben, Sekyere East (Effiduase), Asante Mampong, Kwadaso, Obuasi, Suame, and Atwima Nwabiagya South are a few of the regions that would benefit.
In addition to the 100 km of local roads that will be officially opened today, Dr. Bawumia stated that the DUR had also finished 75 km of town roads in Ashanti, including the 11 km Bekwai Town Roads, the 5.5 km Kwamo Town Roads, the 6 km Manhyia Roads (Buokrom), and the 7 km Ejisu/Kwaso Town Road.
Partial Reconstruction of Selected Roads in Kumasi Lot1 (57km), the Kumasi Roads and Drainage Extension Project (90 percent finished), and the 100km construction of the Kumasi Inner City Roads, which entails the rehabilitation of an additional 100km of local roads in Kumasi, are all ongoing projects being carried out under the supervision of the DUR. On March 25, 2022, the sod was cut, and 10 percent of the work had been completed.
