The Ghana Police Service, Department of Social Welfare, and other stakeholders are recognised by the International Justice Mission for their leadership in the fight against human trafficking in Ghana on the occasion of this year's World Day Against Trafficking Persons. The Human Trafficking Secretariat is a division of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

We are pleased with the significant progress these institutions have achieved, including Ghana's placement on Tier 2 in the Trafficking In Persons (TIP) report, despite significant logistical challenges. With the enhanced financial allocation for the Human Trafficking Fund for the fiscal year 2022, the Ghanaian government has made strides in combating the issue of human trafficking, and we applaud them for that.

IJM is pleased that this year's commemoration in Ghana will centre on the rollout of a National Plan of Action (NPA), to which it made a significant contribution.

But in order for this strategy to work, resources are needed. We rely on the government and other government partners to provide the necessary political will, leadership, financing, and human resources in order to implement every aspect of the plan in this respect.

IJM specifically points out that hard-working partners have been less effective at delivering follow-up assistance to survivors who require psycho-social care due to a lack of essential resources. We urge the involvement of traditional and religious leaders at the national and local levels in addition to logistics.

These groups are crucial collaborators in overcoming the problem of trafficking. Not only are these authorities highly regarded and in a position to establish bylaws, but regrettably they are occasionally at fault as well.

It is essential to bring them to the table where the issue and its solutions are addressed. In order to do this, the International Justice Mission is still dedicated to assisting with the NPA's implementation at all levels.

It will continue to assist government partners in their efforts to apprehend and hold accountable offenders, rescue and reintegrate victims, and enhance the judicial system.
