In response to some of the students' violent demonstrations on Tuesday, the Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOTECH) was briefly shut down.
The 1,461 second-year students and the final-year students protesting were requested to leave the school by 4 p.m. The protestors, who are final-year students participating in the current West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), were asked to leave.
The final-year students will be permitted, however, to enter the school grounds when they have a paper to write and to depart the grounds as soon as they have finished writing their separate exams. This arrangement will last until the completion of the examinations.

When he led several REGSEC members to evaluate the circumstance in the institution as a group, the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, announced the choice. Lieutenant Colonel Michael Mintah-Agyeman, commanding officer of the mechanised battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the Upper East Region, Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba, the deputy commissioner of police (DCOP) for the Upper Regional Police, and Rex Asanga, the mayor of Bolgatanga Municipality, were all with him.
According to Mr. Yakubu, the decision to temporarily close the school was made in order to safeguard people's lives and property while also stopping the rabid kids from causing more damage to public and private property.
According to him, "as REGSEC, we decided to close the school in order to not jeopardise the security situation in the school," and he continued, "hence, personnel of the Ghana Police Service would monitor the complex till the reopening of the school."
He emphasised that it was "completely unacceptable for young people like you to go on a rampage and ruin properties" and urged the students to exercise restraint and refrain from using the law to their advantage when they had complaints.
The minister also stated that following an evaluation, all losses to the school and individual property will be borne by the pupils.
