Ghana's Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, has urged the populace to have faith in the legal system in order to strengthen the rule of law, stability, and peace in the nation.
Judges and magistrates were listed as one of the top five most allegedly corrupt public officials in the country in the 2021 CDD-Afrobarometer survey, which was published this year.
Prosecutors, judges, and magistrates were among the top three categories of public officials who received the greatest cash bribes paid in 2021, according to a separate poll by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
According to the CDD-Afrobarometer survey, there was a fall in institutional trust between 2019 and 2022.
Despite this, the Courts remained one of the most respected organisations in Ghana.
However, the Chief Justice praised the judiciary's indispensable contributions to Ghana's strong constitutional democracy, peace, and stability in a speech read on his behalf by Appeals Court Judge His Lordship Justice Richard Adjei Frimpong at the commissioning of Kwahu Nkwatia Circuit Court Complex built by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) Nkosuohene Kwahu Nkwatia in Eastern region.
"Ghana's current ranking of second in Africa on the peace index is not fluid.
A crucial element in accomplishing this feat is the culture of the rule of law.
It is not our habit to brag about ourselves, but in this case it is appropriate to do so in light of the judiciary's crucial contributions to the nation's strong constitutional democracy insofar as it helps in promoting peace and stability.
Therefore, he urged the populace to "have faith in the court procedures and use the court facility well. As a group, we are committed to creating a justice system that ensures the efficient, prompt, and high-quality delivery of justice to all of our litigants and citizens.
The Nkwatia Circuit Court Complex is a state-of-the-art courthouse that includes, among other things, a big courtroom, the judge's chamber, the cashier office, the registry, the ADR Secretariat, the ADR room, the cabinet room, storerooms, a parking lot, and restrooms.
With assistance from the Wadie family, Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) fully funded the project, which was completed in less than a year by Opanyin Kwame Wadie's Freedom Builders Construction Limited.
