After news broke that the Black Galaxies forward is hesitant to extend his contract with the club, he has taken over the local media.
According to a source who spoke with Graphic Sports, the team ultimately opted to let the talented attacker depart.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh still hasn't agreed to a new contract, so the board chairman and I had a conversation about how, if he doesn't sign, nobody should call him; he should be free to go, but his conscience would be the last arbiter, the source added.
The insider said, "If you can treat a club that helped you become famous that way, then he can go since we tried all we could for more than three months to get him to join, but he kept on dithering with us with his so-called manager, so if he wants to go he can go.
According to the source, the player was delaying signing a new contract because he did not want to play for the team. They had left him off the list of players the club had sent to the Ghana Football Association as a result (GFA).
The statement went on to say, "He wouldn't like to sign and the only reason he wouldn't like to sign is that he doesn't want to play for the club, but one thing I'm confident of is that his name is not on the list of players we submitted to the FA."
At the end of this month, Barnieh's contract is set to expire, but the player has declined to sign a new one because of rumors that numerous overseas teams are interested in signing him.
In order to get ready for the 2023 African Nations Championship [CHAN], which will be held in Algeria, Barnieh is currently at the Black Galaxies' training facility.
