Five employees of Kwadwo Ofori Limited, the top provider of building supplies, have been placed on remand after being accused of stealing supplies worth $2,615, 011 in total.
Santa Nangba, a 27-year-old sales manager, Peter Bawla, a 28-year-old supervisor, William Dagadu, a 27-year-old IT specialist, and Felix Ofori-Boafo, a cashier, are the defendants.
The accused have entered a not guilty plea on the counts of conspiring to steal.
After the accused individuals' separate attorneys pleaded for bail, the court, presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah, remanded them into police custody to permit further investigations.
The bail application was also rejected by the prosecution, which was headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Augustus Yirenkyi, claiming that the case was still being looked at.
The lawsuit has been postponed until January 5, 2023, though.
The prosecution claimed that the accused were his employees who he had trained to run his various branches. The complainant, Frank Kwadwo Ofori, is the Director of Kwadwo Ofori Enterprise Limited, Accra.
The defendants had previously worked in Accra before being moved to Cape Coast to oversee a branch.
According to the prosecution, the accused individuals received iron rods, cement, binding wires, and nails to be sold in significant amounts by the complainant.
In particular, Nangba, his sales manager at the Cape Coast location, was cited as someone the complaint had confidence in.
According to the prosecution, the accused defendants asked to be given bags of cement on or before September 2022.
The complainant did, however, learn that the suspects had a store of roughly 10,000 bags of cement. Therefore, the complainant started to wonder why the accused people were asking for sacks of cement among other things.
The prosecution informed the court that the complainant learned via one of his employees that the accused had sold the stock of cement bags but had not properly accounted for them.
It said that the complainant got concerned and undertook stocking at the Cape Coast branch with the help of his accounting officials, which revealed "a net shortage of goods to the tune of $2,615,011.30."
As a result, the accused were invited to the company's headquarters in Accra to undergo questioning.
The accused allegedly wrote an undertaking to return the money to the complainant after admitting to stealing things worth $2,568,770.40, including iron rods, bags of cement, binding wires, and nails.
However, the complainant reported the incident to the police on December 20, 2022, and the accused people were taken into custody.
According to the prosecution, the accused individuals admitted to the crime in their caution statement.
According to investigations, the accused sold the items that were given to them without accounting for them, the official added.
