Ghanaians have received advice on their health and wellbeing from Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, a Ghanaian physician who practises in the United States.

In his New Year's address on December 26 to Ghanaians, Dr. Arthur Kennedy suggested reducing the amount of meals high in carbohydrates such kenkey, "banku," "fufu," and "akple" in favour of consuming more fruits and vegetables.

He said that excessive alcohol consumption must be reduced and that Ghanaians should exercise caution when using illicit substances.

"We must also control our diets in our competition. The amount of "fufu," "akple," and "banku" should be decreased, and when they are decreased and replaced with fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods, the body benefits, he suggested.

He urged Ghanaians to visit physician assistants more frequently in order to maintain the necessary normal levels of blood pressure and sugar and to guarantee a suitable state of health and fitness.

Dr. Arthur Kennedy also issued a warning on the use of herbs without first seeing a physician.

"While some of them (herbs) can cure, they can have harmful side effects. Many renal issues as well as other issues have been linked to herbs whose dosages we are unaware of and which we consume, so let's be cautious with such herbs, he stated in a recorded video on December 26.

He added asked people to make peace with their loved ones as part of their New Year's resolutions if they have strained connections with their family and friends.

"We have gotten more self-centered and depressed in recent years. There is an epidemic of loneliness and too much emphasis on "me" as opposed to "us". Accordingly, I implore you to cultivate your existing connections and reignite ones that have cooled down with family members such as your children, spouses, distant relatives, and friends as part of your New Year's plans.

The Ghanaian doctor who is currently in practice in the United States urged Ghanaians to reconnect with long-lost acquaintances and shun the Western tendency of just relating to nuclear families in favor of cherishing extended families.
