Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has declared that the Ghana National Electronic Pharmacy Platform, also known as the e-Pharmacy platform, officially launches today across the country.

The Ghanaian public can easily upload and purchase prescription medications on the platform and have them delivered to their locations once they register on it using their Ghanacard. Ghana's nationwide e-pharmacy platform is one of the few in the world and the first of its kind in any African nation.

Dr. Bawumia, who led the e-pharmacy initiative with stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry after a successful six-month pilot, announced the initiative's full operationalization on his Facebook page. He expressed delight at the convenience it will bring to Ghanaians as well as its anticipated boost to the pharmaceutical industry.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has successfully executed a number of digitalization projects over the previous six years, and the e-pharmacy platform is just one more.

The digital national identification system (Ghanacard), the national digital property address system, the interoperability of mobile money, the universal QR Code, the digitisation of government services at the ports, the registrar general, the DVLA, passport applications, among many others, are among the most important ones.

The e-pharmacy platform expands on the popular medical drone delivery service, which uses drones to transport critical medications in real time to outlying regions of the nation.

The entire text of Dr. Bawumia's Facebook post is shown below:

In 2019, I tasked the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana with ensuring that pharmaceutical services are digitalized by launching a large-scale e-pharmacy platform on a nationwide level.

It was a privilege for me to introduce the Ghana National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (GNEPP) in July 2022 after the Pharmacy Council took on the responsibility (with cooperation from my office). I'm happy to see that the GNEPP is now operational after a successful pilot, making Ghana the first African nation and one of a select few nations.

With GNEPP, you may register with your Ghanacard and upload any prescription using your mobile device by visiting https://www.gnepplatform.com/. (or through a USSD code). You may search for nearby pharmacies that carry the medications and compare the costs of the medications at other pharmacies. You may order the medication using your smartphone, pay for it, and either have it delivered to your home using your digital address or pick it up. Because the GNEPP platform is connected with the FDA platform, you may also be certain that the pharmaceuticals are authentic.

Ghana will participate in the new pharmaceutical digital economy through the National Electronic Pharmacy Platform, which will increase pharmaceutical sales and produce income. For Ghanaians, GNEPP will also mean fewer "Wahala."
