Edem Senanu, the co-chairman of the Citizen Movement against Corruption (CMaC), has advocated for the Office of the Special Prosecutor's workers to get adequate compensation.
He said that the pay should be sufficient to encourage the employees to carry out their tasks fully.
Mr. Senanu noted on JoyNews' News Desk that certain offenders in the battle against corruption have a lot more money to give corruption fighters.
He warned that it may result in people shirking their duties in the battle against the threat.
"Sometimes the targets of your efforts have a hundred times to give. Some employees would just ignore their duties. "Since it involves more than simply performing the task at hand; it also involves the risk that you take on. Some of them must occasionally vanish since intelligence reports suggest someone may be planning an action from time to time.
He claims that fighting corruption is not a task that should be handled "with kids' gloves."
In light of the fact that campaign pledges and actual events diverge, Mr. Senanu asserted that there is a lack of political will in the battle against corruption.
In preparation for the general elections of 2024, he suggested that voters critically assess the promises made by candidates because "it's like it's a business for them, they invest and then they don't care about the ambitions of the people or the development agenda," he said.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor's employees, with the exception of the Deputy Special Prosecutor, were due wage arrears as of close to the end of 2022, with the Special Prosecutor owing for sixteen months.
Senanu emphasised the need for a swift resolution to the problem.
The administration quickly declared that the problem had been remedied after the report. On Newsfile, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng stated on December 31 that the administration hasn't demonstrated enough commitment to combating corruption. He said that Ghanaians are unwilling to expose instances of corruption, thus he does not believe the nation is prepared to battle corruption.
