Joo Félix, a forward for Atlético Madrid and Portugal, has joined Chelsea on a temporary basis through the conclusion of the 2022–23 campaign, the English Premier League club said on Wednesday.
In a statement released by the team, Félix said, "Chelsea is one of the top clubs in the world and I hope to assist the squad attain their objectives. I am very, very glad to be here and extremely thrilled to play at Stamford Bridge."
The La Liga team acquired the 23-year-old for $142 million (126 million euros) in 2019 — the fifth-richest transfer in football history at the time. He made 131 appearances for Atlético, making 34 goals in that time.
Félix has played 28 times for Portugal and scored a goal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Joao Felix has been officially signed by Chelsea on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.
The Portuguese attacker was signed by the Blues ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, who were both unwilling to pay the €11 million (£9.69 million) loan fee plus salary.
Felix expressed his excitement about playing at Stamford Bridge on the club's official website in response to his loan move to Chelsea: "Chelsea is one of the top teams in the world, and I hope to assist the team attain its objectives."
Felix made the trip to London on Tuesday for his physical before joining Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign.
The 23-year-old joins Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos as Chelsea's fourth new recruits this month.

According to the Spanish La Liga team, the 23-year-old Atletico Madrid forward will remain with the London club through the end of the current campaign and the contract has no buy-out clause.
Prior to the Chelsea loan move, Felix has formally extended his contract with Atletico Madrid through June 2027, according to Atletico.
With Atletico Madrid, Felix won the Spanish La Liga championship in 2021.
