The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has detained four employees who were mentioned in JoyNews' investigative story, "Money Above Human Lives."

The Greater Accra Regional Office at 37 and the Tamale Regional Office in the Northern Region each conducted their respective portions of the inquiry.

A 48-hour mandatory training course at an approved driving school, a computerised theory test, an in-traffic driving test, a test of road signs, and other violations were made public by the documentary.

It included DVLA employees of various kinds, some of whom worked through agents, as well as security guards who solicited money to circumvent official standards for their own financial benefit, completely disregarding the risk to human lives that their acts posed.

The DVLA claimed in a statement on January 11 that it had taken steps to remedy the rot in the process of obtaining driver's licences, weeks after the documentary was shown.

It stated that the Authority and driving schools in Ghana have planned a meeting to identify, go over, and streamline operations for effectiveness.

Driving schools mentioned in the documentary have been invited to a meeting for review, and if any licence requirements have been broken, suitable sanctions will be applied.

In order to stop such crimes from happening again, the DVLA also announced several fresh reforms.

a) The DVLA's invoice system guarantees our prices are transparent and gives the consumer knowledge about our services. We are actively updating our payment platform, which will be expedited strategically with the aim of exclusively accepting digital forms of payment for almost all of our services.

b) By the end of the first quarter, the Authority will introduce a mobile app. Customers will be able to apply for services, make payments, and receive notifications while also having the chance to verify our goods and services.

c) Improving access management techniques (including the installation of additional CCTV systems at all CBT rooms). Webcams and facial recognition technology will be used to make sure that only qualified applicants take the test.

d) A review of all the driving schools in the nation.

e) The vehicles used for the in-traffic test would have cameras installed.

b) Continual certification and training for driver examiners.

g) Re-registration of all instructors and driving schools.
