Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the majority leader, issues a dire warning, stating that introducing bondholders without more discussion risks eradicating the middle class and bringing about the end of the nation.

"What we are discussing is the fact that many of these bondholders also come from the middle class, and that is the main cause for concern.

"If we are eliminating the middle class, that may be dangerous. Therefore, we need to continue the conversation on this. I don't believe that the government is interested in or enjoys oppressing anyone.

The administration believes that this is the right course of action, but even if it is, we still need to engage, reflect, and then proceed, which will reassure some individuals who are on the fence.

This was his response when a group of individual bondholders brought a petition to him and the chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson, in Parliament House on Friday to voice their complaints to the Executive. The group was led by convener Senyo Hosi and private solicitor Martin Kpebu.

The government has been urged to stop the plan and exempt them from signing the restructuring agreement, which ends on Monday, by major parties, including economists.

However, according to the administration, the goal of the programme is to make the country's debts manageable as a crucial element of achieving an IMF deal.

Cassiel Ato Forson, who holds a position on the Finance Committee, disagrees that the government must deal with specific bondholders.

He urged the Finance Minister to immediately halt their inclusion for additional consultations during the meeting with the specific bondholders.

Bondholders are anxiously awaiting news of the government's next move in the meantime.

But amid all of this, the Majority Leader worries that moving forward without prudence might damage the citizenry's savings culture, which has taken decades of patient work to establish.

"Conversations, roundtable discussions, and engagements are necessary wherever we are, and nothing can replace them. I believe it's crucial that we get back to the planning table and engage the key players.
