According to Elder Peter A. Gyamfi, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Conference of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), funds under the government's perishables and recurrent expenditure budget for the 2023 academic year have been issued to Senior High Schools.

He said that the money was split into three lodgements: perishables for pupils now enrolled in forms two and three, and recurring expenses for form three students who had just completed their high school education.

This was said by Elder Gyamfi in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the Eastern Region's 90 senior high schools' readiness for the start of the 2022–2023 academic year early this week.

"The recurring expense is utilised for maintenance and the overall operation of the school. The perishable is GH1.50p per pupil each day,".

He did, however, make the uninspiring claim that just 15 schools out of the 90 SHSs had gotten the three "itemised food products" to start the new academic year.

As of right now, Bufferstock has awarded contracts to vendors that will provide us with meals. Out of the 18 listed food products, 10 schools received simply beans, three received beans and maize, and two received beans and gari, the official added.

Beans, gari, rice, millet, maize, soy beans, tom brown, sugar, sardines, mackerels, milk, peanuts, flour, margarine, vegetable cooking oil, hot chocolate, and tin tomatoes are among the 18 "itemised food products."

He said that the 18 "itemised food products" were still needed by the schools in order to feed the children. The Headmaster of Pentecost SHS in Koforidua, Elder Gyamfi, also noted that around 650 pupils had reported to class as of Tuesday afternoon and expressed the expectation that this number would rise in the following days.

"You will be astounded at how eager youngsters are to return to school. Out of the 1,300 boarding students, about 650 had come in, the speaker added.

He thanked the Church of Pentecost for providing some food products to the school as officials waited for supplies from the bufferstock firm. Students were reporting for the 2023 academic year, according to Koforidua Senior High Technical School (Koforidua SecTech) and Adonteng Senior High School, which both informed the GNA.

Koforidua SecTech's Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, Mr. Samuel Batarema, stated that all students should be back at school by Thursday to sit a resuming exam.

He clarified that the exam was meant to encourage everyone to arrive on time so that class activities could start as soon as possible.

Teachers are asked to adhere to the teachers' code of conduct by Mr. Peter Danquah Kpakpo-Atsem, Secretary of the Eastern Regional Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

On January 10, 2023, the new school year began for both Junior High Schools (JHS) and Senior High Schools (SHS), with many students, especially SHS students, eager to get back to class.
