Private university founders and chancellors reveal the name of a new organization.

The newly founded group for owners, founders, and chancellors of private universities in Ghana has been given the name Private University Founders Association, Ghana (PUFA-Ghana).

This came following a meeting on January 31 at the Wisconsin International University College (WIUC), Ghana's North Legon Campus.

The decision was made by the Association's members during a meeting that was convened behind closed doors just to discuss the name, logo, constitution, and leadership.

The Association was established as a forum for private university owners, founders, and chancellors to network and promote their interests.

The conference did not result in a constitution for the Association, according to WIUC's founder and acting spokeswoman, Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn.

As a result, a new date has been chosen for the decision-making process.

"The private universities will sign to the constitution when we ratify it (the constitution), and we shall have our elections for executives to manage the Association," he said.

He stated that the Association's temporary monthly meeting location will be the North Legon Campus of Wisconsin International University College until registration and official procedures start on Monday, February 6.

The Accra College of Medicine and the Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design-Design Institute Africa (JACCD) were both accepted by the Association, bringing the total number of members to 12 private universities.

In an interview with MyJoyOnline, the JACCD representative Akosua Koranteng Adayi stated that she expected the Association to "have a powerful mouthpiece to be able to put out legislation and other concerns that pertain to private institutions and create a platform of network for founders."

"The key and the best course of action is to be able to join together to network and to have a single goal to ensure the sustainability and success of private education in Ghana," she added.

The Association will get together once more on February 7, 2023.
