A project agreement for the building of a second gas processing plant has been signed by the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) (Train 2).
The event took place on Friday at Accra's Gas House Forecourt. To handle more gas from the Jubilee and TEN fields, the Gas Processing Plant will have a 150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) capacity that may be increased to 300 MMscfd.
For individuals in the company's operations locations, the initiative will result in the creation of 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the board chairman of GNGC, said in a speech during the event that the project will enhance GNGC operations and help the government's industrialization plan.
This plan is intended to, among other things, reinforce and enhance the mission of Ghana Gas as the single state agency charged with building, owning, and operating the infrastructure necessary for the collection, processing, transportation, and sale of natural gas resources in Ghana.
The development of a second gas processing plant, GPP Tranin-2, to handle the additional natural gas volume from our upstream partners is a crucial component of this project. Therefore, it is anticipated that the GPP Train-2 would play a crucial role in satisfying Ghana's energy needs and serve as a major catalyst for the government's industrialization strategy. He spoke.
The Ghana Process Plant (GPP) Train-2 project would be built with an initial capacity of 150 MMscfe of gas per day, according to board chairman Kennedy, which will be increased to handle more raw gas volume from the larger Jubilee and Ten fields, reaching 200 MMscfe of gas per day.
"Ghana Gas is determined and ready to play its leading role in harnessing and diversifying the assets for the socioeconomic growth of the country," the statement reads. Added he.
According to Dr. Ben Asante, CEO of GNGC, the project would make the firm a fully integrated gas services provider and guarantee a consistent supply of gas and derivatives in Ghana and the West African subregion.
Dr. Asante reaffirmed that the project would assist in realizing the company's aim of providing gas in a way that is both economical and considerate of the environment, and he said that Ghana Gas plans to upgrade their current infrastructure.
At the moment, we continue to process 120 units, or 1 million mscfd, every day. With the gasoline that comes from the plant, we can produce around 300 MW of power. He disclosed.
