The Ghana Karate Do Federation has chosen Mr. Nathaniel Johnson as its new, energised president to guide the organisation through this year's All-Africa Games and beyond.
The nation's top entrepreneur, Mr. Johnson, enters his new role with a contagious sense of transformative vigour and a dedication to acting as a catalyst for the growth of the nation's lesser-known sport.
"My goal is to establish the Federation as a preeminent sports organisation in Ghana and beyond. Most significantly, I'm dedicated to advancing Asian sports in Ghana and throughout Africa, Mr. Johnson told the media after winning the election.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Natheniel Johnson pledged that his government would not leave any loose ends. It's time to report for duty; all hands are on deck.
He stressed the important role Karatakas may play in ensuring the security of their villages and the entire country.
When asked if he would cooperate with the departing CEOs, Mr. Johnson said his first responsibility as president was to bring the Federation's members together in order to promote development. "The previous Executive served in that position for eight years, and with that depth of knowledge, any wise successor would bring them on board his administration to accomplish the aims of the Federation."
"My government won't abandon all of the previous administration's initiatives. Plans already in place that are advantageous to the Federation will be continued. He emphasised how effective his administration.
Finally, Mr. Johnson appealed to all Karatakas for their assistance in helping him lead the Federation to victory. The Ghana Karate-Do Federation was founded on April 30, 1997, as the 26th Sporting Organization under the National Sports Authority (NSA). It is affiliated with both the World Karate Federation and the Union of African Karate Federation (UFAK).
The GKF competed in the UFAK Zone 3 tournament in Ivory Coast in 1997, the same year the Federation Association was established, and won 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals.
Since then, the GKF has competed admirably in several international competitions as well as the annual UFAK Zone 3 championships. In Ghana, there are now approximately 10,000 karatekas practising the art at various levels of development.
According to the Federation's constitution, members pick new leadership every four years. On February 17, 2023, at the Accra Sports Stadium's Media Center, members chose Mr. Nathaniel Johnson as president and Sensei Isaac Amponsah as vice president. Sensei Frank Danso Bekoe and Sensei Daniel Gyamfi are the other executives.
The previous president, Mr. Melvin Brown, served two terms in a row. Before to him, the Federation was presided over by Mr. Michael Nunoo, Attorney Jude Adu-Amankwa, and Rtd. Captain George.
