Tuesday, February 21, 2023, saw the commissioning of the National Police Headquarters renovation project as well as the presentation to the Police Service of 100 pickup trucks, 600 motorcycles, and six armored personnel carriers (APC).
The President said that the equipment's presentation was "proof, if any were required, of the government's commitment to the constant retooling of the police, a responsibility my government takes very seriously." The 100 pickup trucks, 600 motorcycles, and six APC vehicles that the president donated will be deployed by the newly formed police units (FPUs) around the nation.
"Up until recently, Accra was the only location for the FPU. But thanks to government assistance, the unit was expanded to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, and it is currently being established in all the other areas, according to President Akufo-Addo.
The services of this specialised unit will soon be available to all areas of the nation, he stated. These regional FPUs will be dispersed throughout the 140 bases, located in different localities across all the regions. They will undoubtedly significantly improve security, law, and order.
"Show kindness and decency to the communities you will be in, but at the same time, perform your task without fear or favor," President Akufo-Addo reminded the officers, men and women, from the FPUs as they carried out their duty. The President noted the various updates and modifications made to the Police Headquarters' exterior and immediate environs, including the refurbishment of the CID building and the rebuilding of the headquarters' perimeter walls and gates.
