On February 22, 2023, the Volta Resettlement Trust Fund's newly reformed board was officially established at the Ministry of Energy.

Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, who serves as the deputy energy minister, charged the Board with making the present trust deed operational by propriety and accepted standards when introducing the 16-member committee on behalf of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

To reevaluate the Trust Deed's goals and reassemble the Managing Trustees (the Board) for equal representation and efficient administration, he claimed that the Board of the Trust Fund was disbanded in 2021.

As a result, it is appropriate that I officially launch the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund Board of Trustees (Managing Trustees) today, he stated

"I acknowledge, however, that a yearly stipend offered by VRA may not be viable in perpetuity," he concluded. I, therefore, order the newly elected Managing Trustees, who represent the interests of the three parties to the Trust Deed, to, among other things, think about revenue-generating initiatives or projects that will eventually be used to maintain the Fund while offering a withdrawal plan for the yearly grant that is funded entirely by VRA.

The Board's Chairman, His Worship Rtd. Emmanuel Nana Antwi-Barima told the Ministry that his board is committed to bringing about a paradigm shift and making sure that its mission is carried out.

In 1996, the Government and the then-Ministry worked together to create the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund (the Trust Fund). This came about as a result of the 52 resettlement townships receiving numerous complaints about the hardships the Akosombo Hydro-electric Power Project had caused in their communities.

On July 22, 1996, a Trust Deed (Trust Deed Constituting the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund) was signed, establishing the Trust Fund.

Based on demands, the Trust Fund's purpose is to take care of the requirements of the 52 townships that have undergone relocation in terms of health, education, water, sanitation, and other areas.

A yearly donation of $500,000 from the VRA goes into the Trust Fund.

Members of Parliament from Kpandai, Salaga, South, Biakoye, Krachi West, Krachi East, and North Dayi are among the additional board members.

Also, it comprises representatives from Pru West, Fanteakwa, Yilo Krobo, Mr. Hanson Monney, Mr. Isaac Biney, and Ms. Sarah Fafa Kpodo, who are the representatives for the Ministry of Energy. Mr. Patrick Mireku and Mr. Kenneth Mensah represent the VRA.
