The Parliament's Health Committee has given the health minister two hours to appear since there are not enough vaccines available.
According to reports, the Select Committee on Health of Parliament has given the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, two hours to appear.
According to a news article by myjoyonline.com, Agyeman-Manu and a few representatives from his ministry and the Ghana Health Service were scheduled to testify before the committee and respond to inquiries on the country's vaccine scarcity.
On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, hours after the committee meeting had begun, the report stated that neither the minister nor his representatives were present before the committee.
According to the report, the committee members, notably Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the member of parliament for Asawase, were furious over the minister's and his staff's absences and thought it was insulting that they were not present.
On February 28, 2023, the Parliamentary Committee on Health called an emergency meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu. The committee was anticipating a presentation from the minister on the current countrywide vaccination shortage.
He is also expected to inform the committee of the steps taken by his government to resolve the issue. On the same subject, the committee has also invited the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and other organizations.
In a letter to the health minister, it was said, "The Committee also demands the participation of the heads and relevant officers of the Ghana Health Service, the National Health Insurance Authority, the Global Fund, the Ministry of Finance, and the Vaccine Control Programme."
In some regions of the country, there have been allegations of a scarcity of the vaccines required for regular vaccinations of children from the time of conception until the age of 18 months.
Hospitals have had a hard time getting measles, polio, and TB vaccines.
The same youngsters the immunizations are designed to protect will likely become more vulnerable as a result.
Among the regions impacted by the vaccination shortage are the Western, Greater Accra, Central, Upper West, Bono, Eastern, and Upper Eastern regions.
