Dr. Daniel McKorley, the chief executive officer of the McDan Group of Companies, has reacted soberly to the Accra High Court's decision to punish him for contempt.

A fine of GH40,000 was imposed on him by the High Court (General Jurisdiction), which was presided over by Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, a Judge of the Court of Appeal, serving as an additional High Court judge.

The petitioner in the case, who claimed McDan had forcibly seized the land in question, should get GH15,000 of that amount, the court ruled.

Dr. Daniel McKorley said he has the highest respect for the court and the judiciary as a whole during a press conference on the subject.

He said that it was not a conscious effort on his behalf to elude the court, but rather that his hectic schedule was the cause of his disrespect.

I have nothing against the court's ruling or the court itself. In reality, I have complete faith in our legal system and the highest regard for the nation's judges. Even though the court has made a ruling on the subject, I am not above the law, and I want it known that the contempt was not on purpose since I had a hectic schedule and some of these issues were not adequately brought to my notice "explained McDan.

"This breakthrough will help me organize my time much better, and it demonstrates how efficiently our courts operate, demonstrating that if you violate the law, no matter who you are, you will suffer the consequences," McDan said somberly.

"This case has taught me a lot, and now that I have more knowledge, I have more faith in and respect for the Ghanaian judiciary," he concluded. I genuinely respect the legal system and wish to compliment the judge who judged me to be disrespectful.

"The court's fine has already been paid, and I want to urge every person in this nation to respect the court because no one is above the law, which is one of the most important the top officials in our country," McDan continued.

Dr. Daniel McKorley also applauded Chief Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah for putting different plans into action and making efforts to enhance the functioning of the Ghanaian legal system.
