Three helicopters have been sent to the Ghana Police Service to improve their operations.

Two Gazelle light attack helicopters and one Airbus 350 helicopter make up the group.

In addition, the police received three miniature ships to assist the marine police in crime prevention through maritime patrols.

This comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave the Police Service 100 pick-up trucks, 600 motorcycles, and six armoured personnel carriers (APCs).

The President further gave the freshly renovated National Police Headquarters project his commission.

It will be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the purchase of the helicopters during the Police College's graduation ceremony two years ago.

Six policemen who would operate these helicopters "have completed their training in South Africa," he said, adding that the helicopter hangars at the National Police Training Academy have been finished.

On Friday, October 1, 2021, Mr. Akufo-Addo addressed the graduation ceremony for the 50th class of cadet officers in Accra.

In his 2018 State of the Nation Address, President Akufo-Addo pledged to purchase helicopters for the police.

The government has given the Service a total of 568 vehicles, including 15 operable buses, since I took office in January 2017, the president stated. This is an achievement unheard of in the Service's history.

Aside from the current Formed Police Unit in Accra, the president announced "an extra 22 light armoured vehicles have been obtained for use by the FPUs to be created in November in the Northern, Upper East, and Ashanti Regions".

"FPUs will be developed in the remaining regions that do not have FPUs in the next one and a half years," he pledged.

The President said that the Police Service and other security organisations will take firm action against criminals in the nation.

Mr. Akufo-Addo stated, "I'm aware the recent violent crime episodes in several areas of the nation have raised safety and security concerns from all sectors of the people.

The Police Force has reaped enormous benefits since President Akufo-Addo took office.

Recently, during his first time in office, the president donated several pick-up trucks and saloon vehicles to the police to support their efforts to combat crime.

He also showed the Service several cars and weaponry.
