NIGERIA: Olalere Michael, a 40-year-old mobile police sergeant, shot himself in the head in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, after killing his sweetheart, Bamidele Cecilia Oluwatosin. He was married and had two kids.
On Thursday, March 2, 2023, the incident took place on the grounds of the Redemption Model Nursery and Primary School, Agba Dam, Ilorin, which is housed inside the Chapel of Redemption UMCA.
According to Daily Trust, the mother of Desmond, a student at the school who would be celebrating his third birthday on May 12, 2023, was the late Tosin, who was reportedly a cleaner at the Banquet Hall across from the Government House.
According to information obtained, several parents refused to let their kids go to school on Friday due to the event, which spread terror in the neighbourhood.
The murdered mobile police officer followed his girlfriend to the school's grounds and waited for her to arrive to pick up her kid before opening fire on her at close range, according to locals and business owners who talked with the magazine.
Several of them couldn't believe "A young and promising person like this would murder himself because of a side chic, without contemplating what his lovely family would experience."
The police officer was wearing a camouflage suit. He arrived on the school grounds in his Toyota Corolla a few minutes before 8 a.m., ahead of his female acquaintance who arrived with her son at the school later.
"As soon as she started walking him, he pulled out his AK-47 weapon and opened fire three times on Oluwatosin's chest, killing her instantly.
The two of them remained lying in a pool of blood until the police arrived to remove their remains an hour later. He then shot himself in the throat, blowing off part of his skull. Mr. Olaleye Arodeyo, a local, told Daily Trust that it was a very horrific scene.
After the disturbing occurrence, the police said it was not an instance of police violence but rather "love gone sour" between the ex-lovers.
Further information revealed that the deceased officer, who had the force number F/NO 497093, had just resigned his employment as an advisor to the governor of the Kwara State. He first met Oluwatosin while working at the Government House.
People who commented on the matter claimed that although they had been dating for some time, problems began when the late Oluwatosin declared she was no longer interested in the union.
According to what we hear, Oluwatosin had a son for a man she was engaged to, who had recently moved to Dublin and was getting ready to visit Nigeria.
One of the occupants, Mrs. Hannah, explained, "Because of it, she wished to cease the affair which sparked their icy relationship and their terrible end.
Unverified sources said Olalere had informed a few of his coworkers the day before the event that he planned to kill someone and then commit himself.
But, a lot of people didn't believe him since he was a successful police officer. He had two homes, one each in the state's local governments of Iloffa, Omu-Aran, Oke-Ero, and Irepodun. He was residing in the Barrack here in Ilorin and has a very attractive wife and two girls, a police source informed the newspaper.
Further information revealed that the late Olalere had made several unsuccessful attempts to persuade Oluwatosin to reconsider her choice to call it quits.
Locals claimed he had just visited the deceased woman's family home, where he reportedly stole various gadgets and other stuff he had purportedly bought for her.
"At this point, he was most upset with the circumstances. But Olalere was deeply in love with her, and I think that's why he killed her and then shot himself, according to Mr. Bello, another local.
