The President's Independence Day Awards are one way that Nestlé Ghana Limited, via its brand MILO® and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, has reiterated its commitment to honoring academic success in Ghana.
Seventy-two (72) students were honored this year for their exceptional achievement in the 2021 and 2022 Basic Education Certificate Exams, including eight (8) with special educational needs (BECE).
Each kid got a cash reward, a laptop, a year's worth of Nestlé products, as well as a certificate signed by the President of the Republic of Ghana as part of their prize package. Having a series of interesting events arranged for the winners, such as trips to Parliament House and the Ministry of Aviation, a flight experience at the Air Force Base in Burma Camp, and a visit to the Nestlé factory in Tema
Ministers of state, diplomats, and traditional leaders all attended the award ceremony, which was held in the Accra International Convention Center.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo thanked the prize winners in his speech at the occasion and urged them to keep working hard and aiming for greatness in their respective sectors. He also expressed his gratitude to Nestlé for continuing to sponsor the awards event and for their dedication to encouraging excellence among young Ghanaians.
In his remarks, Mr. Georgios Badaro, the Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana Limited, emphasised that Nestlé's long-standing cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Presidency acknowledges the Young Ghanaian talent's successes should inspire them to pursue excellence in all of their endeavours and develop into responsible future leaders for the nation.
In 1993, the President's Independence Day Awards were created. Since its establishment, the award system has awarded talented young students between the ages of 14 and 19 from various regions of Ghana. The recipients of the awards were chosen based on their outstanding academic results in the Basic Education Certificate Test (BECE). Since they first began, the Awards have proudly partnered with Nestlé's beverage brand MILO®.
In addition to the President's Independence Day Awards, Nestlé MILO® supports various programmes for young athletes' growth, including the MILO® under-13 Champion's League and the MILO® Sports Development Program, which both benefit over 100,000 students nationwide.
