Former Ghanaian Students' Union President Gabriel Asante has been named the 2023 recipient of the African Hero's Award by the African Students' Union at Ohio University.
His award, according to the organizers, was based on his dedication, advocacy efforts, and passion in the fight for cost-elimination at the upper secondary level in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as his contribution to the accomplishment of Goal 4 of Agenda 2030 of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, which speaks volumes of his pan-Africanism, they claim.
During an event with the topic "The Revival of African Heroism," Mr. Gabriel Asante's keynote speech revealed that over 60% of youngsters of upper secondary school age, or level 3 of educational level classifications, are unemployed.
in Africa in school.
To attain Sustainable Development Goal 4.1 in 2030, he stated that these numbers must improve. He said that in the United States, for instance, when we discuss access to education, we are referring to the tertiary level, not the high school.
What can Africa do to alter this? What is Africa doing? He poses the question, "We all have a part to play in changing the world and resolving this issue, and coming together for a common goal is a crucial component.
He recalled how he founded the CONCERNED YOUTH ASSOCIATION OF BEHENASE in 2011 in his hometown of Behenase, a village in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, by working hard and with passion.
Due in part to Ghana's free senior high school policy, he continued, "our influence is that now, many adolescents in my Behenase Village have completed and are enrolled in senior high school.
He thought that when young people work together, they can do much more, whether they get assistance or not, to promote the expansion of the education sector.
Gabriel Asante said that during the Ukraine-Russian War, they were able to rescue several Ghnaiam pupils who were harmed by the conflict through cooperation and collaboration. "I recognized my teamwork spirit was triggered," Asante said. UNITY. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made my cell phone number public so that anyone escaping to Hungary may contact me for help. According to information we received from them, the first group of 26 students fleeing the conflict arrived on February 27, and another 200 were en route. In reality, he suggested, it was a challenging time.
In his closing remarks, he urged African students everywhere to start learning about and researching the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), calling it a noble vision from the continent's ancestors. Let's consider how we may each use this wonderful concept and the potential of the AfCFTA in our own little ways, in our communities, and in our nations. Let's conduct business among ourselves and work together. It is the surest path to success and heroism.
"Let us continue to place a high priority on education, my traditional and political leaders. Our goal should be to at least complete upper secondary education for the younger generations. It is necessary to reconsider primary and lower secondary school as the end of the obligatory education process in many African nations.
