The Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-assertions Addo's that his administration has built more roads than any other under the Fourth Republic as inaccurate and misrepresentations.
The President said that since taking office in 2017, his administration had constructed highways totaling 11,000 kilometres.
Reaction
Nevertheless, Isaac Adjei Mensah, a former deputy minister of roads and highways and the minority's spokesperson, claimed that 6,400 km of roads were built while the current administration was in power.
Added extra roads by NDC
Last Friday, Mr. Adjei Mensah addressed charges made by the President that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party in opposition, built just 4,000 km of roads under John Dramani Mahama was mistaken; the actual distance was 15,553 kilometres.
In fact, Mr. Mensah, who is also the Wassa East MP, said that when the former President left office, he had built a total of 78,402 km of roads, with a motorability rate of 71%.
In order to assess the good, terrible, and poor state of the nation's roads, he noted that the Roads Ministry had failed to complete the survey since 2017.
According to Mr. Mensah, the National Road Condition Mix, which was often completed by specialists inside the ministry, awarded the country a 71% overall rating for good, terrible, and poor conditions under the tenure of Jerry John Rawlings.
He asserted that another such study was conducted under the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Interchanges
Regarding interchanges, the Minority disputed the President's claim that the Fourth Republic saw an increase in interchange construction under his administration.
According to the MP, John Dramani Mahama's government acquired all of the finances and designs for the Pokuase, Tema Motorway, and Flower Port interchanges.
"The Tamale Interchange is the only interchange that bears the name of the NPP. The remainder are all in a state of uncertainty. Yes, work has been put on hold, he said.
Moreover, he claimed that John Dramani Mahama was responsible for building the Kasoa and Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchanges.
