According to Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, the chairman of the Appiatse Support Fund, the fund has received GHC 62 million in donations thus far from a variety of institutions, organisations, and people in support of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Appiatse township, which was destroyed by a fire explosion at the beginning of last year.

This information was made public by the Chairperson when she accepted a GHC 200,000 check gift from Goil on Monday, March 20, 2023, as their contribution to the rebuilding of Appiatse.

In addition to donations from other organisations, Maxam Company, the mining company responsible for the tragedy, has consistently paid its fine, according to Madam Joyce Aryee, who added that it has contributed to the GHC62 million total donated.

She expressed the sincere gratitude of her team and the people of Appiatse to Goil for such a kind donation, saying that it will go a long way in assisting them to make timely payments to contractors. She also hoped that their act of kindness would be the beginning of a second wave of donations from institutions that have yet to contribute to the fund, as she believed that more money was required to finish the entire project.

Rev. Joyce Aryee described a variety of difficulties contractors experience at the site, mentioning in particular how the region's persistent rain slows down construction. Nonetheless, Madam Joyce expressed optimism that by September, the most of the structures will have been finished.

In his remarks, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, the managing director of Goil, stated that after learning of the tragic occurrence that took place in Appiatse, Goil, as a socially conscious business body, decided to join the fray and assist to the restoration of the model green village.

The institution sent a check when the event happened last year, but was unable to deliver it on time. Still, he said, "better late than never," and went on to explain why their gift to the Fund appeared to have been delayed.

The MD further noted that Goil first donated to Appiatse directly before the fund was established, and he commended Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee and her staff for their work.
