Tuchel will start supervising team training on Monday and will have a contract that runs through June 30, 2025.
Assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller, Benjamin Gluck, and Xaver Zembrod were also fired in addition to Nagelsmann.
Tuchel, a former head coach at Chelsea, Dortmund, and Paris Saint-Germain, had also been closely associated with Tottenham recently. Antonio Conte and Spurs may part ways before the season is out.
Tuchel has a chance to have an impact that results in a trophy when he takes over at the Allianz Arena. Bayern has been a longtime admirer of Tuchel.
Tuchel's first game in charge will be against Dortmund, which might be crucial in the title chase.
Nagelsmann has established a solid reputation throughout his time with Hoffenheim, Leipzig, and Bayern and is not likely to remain unemployed for very long.
