"You are not here to be trained to be employed, but you are being prepared to deliver answers," Mr. Akugiri Atoni Lamisi, group head of Strategic Business Process Solutions Ltd (SBP) Africa, said eloquently to final-year students at the University of Cape Coast.

At a seminar called "Develop your Today for the Future" organised in Cape Coast by the Dora Edu-Buandoh (DEB) foundation, he made this statement while discussing the sub-topic "Employers' Expectations from Young Graduates."

The final-year students were warned by Mr. Lamisi to cease thinking that companies are trying to hire top students. He said, "First-class students are no longer being recruited by organisations pitching camps at various higher universities.

He advised the final-year students to embrace the spirit of volunteerism as it is a necessary component in the recruitment process of most organisations. He said that organisations have limited scope for human resource capacities and that in the modern digital world, solution-centeredness is the game changer.

"The world is headed towards entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence (AI) is taking up a lot of jobs in the world of work," he said as he concluded his speech. Despite this, graduates need to rise to the challenge of being solution providers as digitalization and human resources work hand in hand to develop solutions for social change.

At the session, the other panellists also discussed other subtopics. The University of Cape Coast's Dr. Irene Kafui Vorsah, a data analyst and lecturer in statistics, urged the final-year students to take communication skills extremely seriously because they are a crucial social skill for selling themselves to potential employers and the general public.

In order to effectively engage with employers after school, she continued, "it is necessary to know who you are and identify your strengths and shortcomings as the cornerstone of knowing yourself." Every action has a reaction, consider them, and make wise decisions because your success in life is solely on "you," and nobody else. The subtopic she was discussing was "Building Social Skills for the future.

Ms. Grace Abban-Ampiah, a Professor at GIMPA also talked on the sub topic, “Volunteering: Giving Back to Society”. You can't give what you don't have, she said categorically. Volunteering, according to her, supports students' growth in the development of communication, organizational, leadership, delegating, and time management skills, all of which are crucial in the workplace.

"Get out there and improve someone's life today; aspire to inspire before you expire," she urged the youngsters.
