Martinez to replace Lenglet?

The Athletic defender looks set to replace Clement Lenglet at Barcelona. The French defender is currently on loan for a season at Premier League club Tottenham but could stay with the north London side.

As reported by Diario Sport, Spurs are happy with the centre-back and are willing to try and agree a permanent deal with Barcelona for a fee of around 14 million euros. Lenglet is believed to be the first player to leave this summer. Samuel Umtiti can also follow in Lenglet's footsteps to leave Barca. The defender is on loan at Lecce in Serie A but has been able to play regularly in Italy after a difficult time at Barca due to injuries and a decline in form.

Barcelona are now convinced that there are clubs ready to sign Umtiti. According to Sport, the defender could only move for a small fee but the Catalans should be able to help ease his wage bill.

Two more free agents coming? Martinez may not be the only free agent to arrive at Barcelona this summer. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club are also hoping to sign former striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on free transfers.

Gundogan is out of contract this summer and is another player Barcelona are targeting. His agent told the Guardian that the midfielder has yet to make a decision on his future.

“There is no agreement with any club yet,” he said. "For the past few weeks, Ilkay has been solely focused on Manchester City and the birth of his son. He is currently in the final and crucial phase of the season and is completely focused on that. Where Ilkay plays. Next season is still open.

Free agents seem to be the best way for Barca to strengthen this summer, given the club are struggling financially, with president Joan Laporta having admitted the club hopes to bring about three players. Heavier on Barcelona news
