The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been tasked by participants at a conference on healthcare delivery to work with religious and cultural institutions to increase public education about healthy lifestyles and health risks related to new health issues.

They also urged health training schools to broaden their curricula in order to provide the necessary human resources to handle the difficulties posed by modern health threats.

The recommendations were made at a conference with the theme "Addressing the Increasing Health Challenges in Ghana: Exploring Diverse Perspectives," which was organized by the Christian Service University College in Kumasi. The participants, who were primarily students, officials of the GHS, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), practitioners of traditional medicine, academics, and allied healthcare providers, attended the conference.

Moreover, they mandated cooperation between the GHS and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to raise public awareness of more general health concerns impacting healthcare services and crack down on unsafe and poisonous food and pharmaceuticals sold on the open market.

The Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, said that while Ghana had made great strides and progress in the delivery of healthcare and other services, there were still issues in the social, cultural, economic, and environmental sectors that made the services ineffective and inefficient. The recommendations were made in response to his keynote address.

Ghana has achieved significant progress in the areas of healthcare personnel, healthcare infrastructure, creation and purchase of medical items, and service quality and delivery, according to Dr. Kuma-Aboagye.

according to World Health Organization standards for healthcare governance, finance, and information availability.

He gave the example of the roughly 41% of individuals who suffer from a mental illness, noting that without a concerted effort to combat prejudices of a religious or cultural origin, healthcare experts alone would not be able to manage the threat.

In order to ensure effective, efficient, and wholesome healthcare service delivery, Dr. Kuma Aboagye urged for ongoing, open communication with relevant organizations and experts. He cited problems arising from social, religious, cultural, economic, and environmental viewpoints.
