The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, recently met with the Tamale Chapter of the KNUST Global Alumni Association as part of the university's effort to track how its products contribute to the development of the nation.
The purpose of the event, which was held on March 11, 2023, was to highlight the contributions KNUST has made over the years and to inform alumni of the crucial support role they can play for the university.
According to Prof. Dickson, the university's products can be found in all areas of the economy and are making their fair share of contributions to the advancement of the country.
"Teknokrats may be found all over the world. The problems of mankind have become our issues, and we are claiming remedies to them everywhere we go, she remarked.
For the institution's expansion, she claimed that the KNUST brand needed to be safeguarded and elevated.
She also gave compliments to KNUST's faculty and students for their contributions to raising the school's flag and winning awards in corresponding international contests.
She referred to the KNUST Debate Team's recent success, which included their second-place finish in the World Universities Debating Championships.
She addressed the alumni and pledged to address new issues to ensure the university's continued expansion.
The KNUST Alumni Association's Tamale Chapter President, Kwame Ohene-Ampofo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and her team for the effort in his welcoming speech and promised the Chapter's support for the University's growth.
Dr. Kwaku Agbesi, the association's global president, praised the vice chancellor for giving KNUST alumni and their activities special attention.
He claims that her actions have led to a noticeable advancement in the alumni hostel project, which is now underway on campus.
Dr. Agbesi stated the Global Executives constructed a Garden in Mamfe, provided full scholarships to three future Teknokrats of the University, organised mentorship programmes for final-year students, and staged a celebration for the 70th anniversary of KNUST.
James Kwasi Oberko, Senior Assistant Registrar of the Advancement and Alumni Relations Office (AARO) of KNUST, reminded the alumni that the office has been resourced to interface between the alumni and the university for their mutual benefit while showcasing the vision of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Tamale Chapter was asked by him to support the University by planning, carrying out, and actively participating in Chapter-related events.
Prof. Bashiru Imoro Ibn-Saeed, pro-vice-chancellor of Tamale Technical University, Prof. Gabriel Teye, former vice-chancellor of the University for Development Studies, Yaw Nimo-Baffour, finance officer of KNUST, and internationally renowned artist Ibrahim Mahama were also present at the gathering.
