More than 600 Muslims in Ghana received sacks of rice from the Palestinian Embassy to help them during their Ramadan fast.

The gift was also intended to express thanks to the government and people for continuing to support the liberation of the Palestinian people, the Embassy said.

Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari, the ambassador of the State of Palestine, said after delivering the food last Monday in Accra. He emphasised the idea of giving and asked the people to assist one another in times of need.

God commands us to support one another and strive to live in peace throughout the month of Ramadan, therefore in my capacity as an ambassador, I'm sending you a message of solidarity by providing rice in the form of bags to certain Muslims.

"We must always be there for one another, not only during Ramadan but always.

We ought to support and work to support one another, he continued.

The envoy said that Christian families in the nation will also get comparable contributions.

Appreciation

Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, the national Chief Imam's spokesperson, thanked the ambassador and the Palestinian people for their gift and urged more charitable persons and organisations to follow their lead.

"This has been accomplished in the spirit of Islam's compassion and giving.

Helping to solve the issues and problems of the underprivileged in society is one of the spirits that is promoted during the fasting season. He said, "The Prophet, peace be upon him, reminded us that whomever gives, God will also fulfil him his requests.

The representative emphasised the need of showing empathy for others by lending a helping hand to those who, through no fault of their own, had found themselves in challenging situations.

"A religion without compassion and love is nothing more than hollow rituals, and this compassion-filled attitude has been shown at the diplomatic level.

Even though his country is oppressed, the envoy from Palestine was nevertheless able to gather some food supplies to meet the needs of the populace, the speaker said.

Advice

Sheikh Shaibu also urged Muslims to cultivate their sense of justice and goodness, particularly in this a time when one fasts.

These are the qualities we need, and we are urging Muslims to exhibit them by fasting during this month, he stated.
