In order to improve the nation's unemployment rate, young people have been encouraged to think about professions in the maritime industry.

Grace Lee, a political counselor at the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, claimed that the blue economy gave young people vital responsibilities to play in the advancement of both the nation and the ocean.

She said, "Unfortunately, young people do not think about professions in the blue economy or are aware of the employment prospects associated with growing technology within the ocean-based industry.

Event

Ms. Lee provided the guidance last Tuesday in Accra at a blue career fair designed to increase young people's potential to actively contribute to the development of Africa's blue economy. The event, which the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute (GoGMI) organized in collaboration with participants, included the Ghana Navy, the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), students from the Accra High School, the Military Forces SHS, and IPEL International School, as well as representatives from the DOTCAN Institute of Canada and the Canadian High Commission.

To provide the pupils with information about different marine occupations, an exhibition was also set up.

Ms. Lee praised the program's partners and urged the students to connect with professionals in the marine sector to support their career choices.

Significance

Shiela Naah-Boamah, a technical advisor at the Ministry of Education, praised the organizers for the effort and stated it will have a significant impact on students' career decisions.

Although praising the organizers for their admirable endeavor, she continued, "we hope that the program would be expanded to other secondary schools outside of Accra so that children from other locations may also be exposed to alternatives outside of the conventional vocations."

The alliance, according to DOTCAN Institute Board Director Simone Le-Gendre, aims to ensure that students have employable skills.

According to her, there is a significant problem with unemployment worldwide, so it is important to make sure that young people develop skills that are compatible with job chances in the marine industry.

People frequently make decisions that prevent them from finding work at the end of the day. So, our objective is to provide these individuals with the necessary exposure and chance to advance their entrepreneurial talents.

where they may launch eco-tourism firms, goods forwarding operations, and other connected industries', Ms. Simone Le-Gendre remarked.

Objective

The goal of the fair, according to Stephanie Schandorf, Associate Director at the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute (GoGMI), was to provide children with a greater awareness of the ocean and the part they may play in creating a sustainable future for the blue world.

She claimed that the institution has actively contributed to research, lobbying, and capacity-building in the fields of ocean governance and maritime security both within and outside of the Gulf of Guinea.
