Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of food and agriculture, is convinced that he would be chosen to lead the party in the 2024 general election by his sizable base of agricultural supporters.
According to his claims, the farmers who serve as party delegates to the general and super congresses and have known him for five years as the minister of food and agriculture would repay him by electing him to lead the party to victory in 2024.
Readies
When asked how prepared he was, Dr. Akoto responded, "I'm quite prepared." I'm basing this on my six-year tenure as the minister of food and agriculture, which saw me spark enthusiasm for farming among the general public in Ghana.
Dr. Akoto stated in an exclusive interview in Accra that "there are 3.1 million farmers in Ghana, and I know this for a fact because in 2018, for the first time in 36 years, I organized an agricultural census, and it was very clear that we had 3.1 million farmers."
The purpose of the interview was to gauge his level of readiness for the flag-bearer battle after he left his position as agriculture minister three months ago to run for the position of party leader in the general election of 2024.
pride of farmers
Dr. Akoto was confident that when the time came, the 1.7 million farmers who participated in the agricultural flagship initiative Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) would overwhelmingly support him.
"The farmers that benefited from the PFJ are really grateful for what I did.
Everywhere I went in 2022 when I went on my routine tour of farming villages around the nation, it seemed more like a thank-you tour.
The farmers expressed their gratitude for the job he had done "everywhere I went," he told the Daily Graphic.
He said that the fact that farmers, who made up the majority of his voters, predominated the delegates in both congresses that resulted in the election of the party's flag bearer, was noteworthy.
The majority of these farmers, particularly in the five areas in the north, are also delegates, which is an intriguing fact. In reality, almost all of their constituency executive members In fact, traditional chiefs, like the Yaa Naa and the Nayiri in the North, as well as the Asantehene, Otumfuo, strongly praise the difference I have made in the lives of their followers, according to Dr. Akoto.
