Last weekend, churches all throughout the country performed services to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, often known as Easter.
Reports from the commemorative services were provided by our regional reporters.
Alberto Mario Noretti writes from Ho-Kpodzi in the Volta Region that during the preaching during the church service last Sunday, the Moderator of the General
Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana (EPCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col.
Bliss Divine Agbeko (retd) saw that instead of the church going into the world to bring about beneficial changes with the gospel of Christ, worldly cravings were now infiltrating the church.
He said that by emerging from the grave, Jesus had given all Christians a fresh sense of freedom and that they must rise in faith beside Him.
Rev. Dr. Agbeko advised the congregation, "Therefore, focus your attention on heavenly treasures and not worldly things."
The moderator emphasized that even in trying times, Christians should not worry since Christ is always their defense.
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Divine Bosson, was a special guest at the service with the subject "Christ has Risen Truly," and he pleaded with Christians to take an interest in politics and to lead an active campaign of honesty among the populace.
He argued that if Christians were involved in politics, it would also deter atheists and corrupt people from running the country.
A larger representation of Christians in politics would foster greater unanimity among policy makers and help the country advance more smoothly, according to the MCE, who also stressed the importance of politicians keeping the welfare of the country at heart and avoiding hostility towards their perceived political rivals.
He said that Christians shouldn't avoid politics since they may help spread the gospel of Christ through exemplary political behavior.
At tough times, Mr. Bosson said, "There is no use remaining uninvolved without contributing to solve national problems with our Christian qualities."
