The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary on May 13 will include 49 candidates, including 12 existing Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Upper East Region.

Two incumbent MPs chose not to submit their names on the ballot nonetheless. They are Benson Tongo Baba, the MP for Talensi, and Cletus Avoka, the MP for Zebilla, who has possibly been in office the longest in the entire area.

The vetting committee dismissed Dr. Stanislaus Alu Kadingdi, a candidate for the Navrongo Central Constituency.

It is unknown if Dr. Kadingdi would challenge the committee's decision to exclude him.

There were 50 candidates that submitted nominations to run in the regional primary; however, 49 made it through the screening process, and one was dismissed.

Unopposed

Out of 12 incumbent MPs, three are running unopposed in the area. They are Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central; Lydia Akanvariba Lamisi; and Dr. Clement Apaak, MP for Builsa South.

There would be a fight between three people in the Nabdam Constituency.

They are Lamtiig Apanga, Zure Francis Sampana, and Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane (the incumbent).
