Easter festivities in the nation have been regularly changed into a worldwide event thanks to the paragliding sport at Kwahu in the Eastern Region.

This is due to the fact that over the last 15 years, the yearly festival, which has emerged as the highlight of the festivities, has continued to draw both residents and visitors from outside.

For the brave and courageous, it often consists of four days of incredible aerial entertainment, ceremony, and music as people arrive as active participants or ecstatic onlookers, all in a friendly setting and with comfortable, cold weather brought on by Kwahu's mountains.

Despite the event's rising popularity, there are worries that it may be becoming an exclusive event given that tickets were required.

Paragliding in 2023

The event this year, which was also a part of the celebrations for the GTA's 50th anniversary, was seen as a great success because more tourists came in groups or families to enjoy themselves or take part.

According to information obtained from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), this year's paragliding festival, which started with seven pilots, saw 166 flights over the course of four days.

Rains hampered it, and fewer pilots participated, but it was nevertheless a success and was widely attended.

Throughout the course of the four days, 36 passengers flew on Friday, 57 on Saturday, 44 on Sunday, and 29 on Monday.

At that time, the passengers were flown by seven tandem pilots, the majority of them were from the United States, Ghana, Peru, Japan, and Columbia.

The event was organised in conjunction with the several assemblies in Kwahu East, West, and South as well as the Kwahu Traditional Authority under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Board Chair of GTA, Dr. Seth Adjei Baah, and the Atibiehene, Nan Barima Kwame Asante Bateani II, who represented the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, were among the notable individuals present at the paragliding event.
